EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is excited to announce that its fan loyalty app, V Fan Rewards, is now available for download from the App Store and Google Play.
 
V Fan Rewards is a free digital platform that awards users with virtual points for showing their school spirit through various activities such as installing the mobile app, connecting their social media accounts, checking-in at athletic events, and using the hashtags #WeAreOne and #GoUTRGV on social media. Fans can use the points they earn to redeem UTRGV swag and official Adidas gear.
 
"V Fan Rewards is a great way to connect with UTRGV Athletics. What I love about it is that it gives you points for going to any of the sport events," UTRGV senior Adrian Castillo said.
 
Users can automatically receive 800 points by installing the V Fan Rewards mobile app, connecting their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, and by following @GoUTRGV on Instagram.
 
Additionally, users can earn as many as 240 points every day for certain social media activities such as liking posts from the UTRGV Athletics Facebook page, or uploading a photo with one of the official hashtags to Instagram. Participants can also earn points for liking and commenting on @GoUTRGV Instagram photos.
 
Aside from these daily activities, individuals can earn the most points when attending athletic events. Fans earn 250 points each time they check-in at an athletic event that is listed in the mobile app. An extra 75 points are awarded to those who check-in 30 minutes prior to the start of a game. Fans can also look forward to approximately 40 bonus-point games where 300 points or more will be awarded for mobile check-ins.
 
A great feature that I found in the app is the events calendar. I no longer have to go to the website or search for it through Facebook, I can just open the app and scroll to see upcoming events." Castillo said.
 
Over the course of the 2015-16 academic school year, V Fan Reward members can earn more than 90,000 points. Members can only carry 20 percent over to the next academic school year.
 
V Fan Rewards prizes include UTRGV backpacks, drawstring bags, hats, t-shirts, water bottles, umbrellas, and fleece blankets.
