Women's Tennis Signs Lasya Patnaik for 2017-18

EDINBURG – University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis head coach Sonia Hahn announced on Wednesday the signing of Lasya Patnaik to a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 academic year.
 
Patnaik comes to the program from Hyderabad, India where she attends Sri Chaitanya School. She has competed in matches for the All India Tennis Association, where she ranks 17th among girls 18 and under, and for Juniors International Tennis Federation, where she ranks 929th in the world.
 
"I'm excited to have Lasya as part of the UTRGV family," Hahn said. "She has potential to be a top player as she gains more experience. She has a high tennis IQ utilizing all parts of the court."
 
Patnaik reached the quarterfinals at the ITF Juniors Grade 5 tournament in September while also reaching the quarterfinals at the AITA U18 tournament in June. She won the AITA CS U-18 in Secunderabad, India in April.
 
Over her juniors career, Patnaik four tournaments in All India Tennis Association while finishing runner up in eight other tournaments.
 
Patnaik will look to make an immediate impact to the program while adding depth to the roster.
