EDINBURG – University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Director of Athletics Chris King announced on Tuesday that men's basketball head coach Dan Hipsher has been reassigned within the department.
 
Hipsher compiled an overall record of 27-66 and a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) mark of 13-31 over three years.
 
"We thank Dan for his efforts on behalf of UTRGV men's basketball," King said. "We wish him well personally and professionally moving forward."
 
A national search to fill the position is underway.
 
"We believe that our men's basketball program should be competing for WAC Championships and national postseason play," King said. "Our expectation of building a championship-caliber program presents an exciting opportunity for our department and our next head coach."
 
UTRGV's yearly records over the past three years:
2013-14: 9-23, 5-11 WAC
2014-15: 10-21, 4-10 WAC
2015-16: 8-22, 4-10 WAC
 
The UTRGV Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will have no further comment until the next coach is hired.
