EDINBURG – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Tuesday that 53 student-athletes at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley competing in either the spring sports of baseball and men's and women's, tennis and outdoor track & field, or in any sports as freshmen or transfers, have earned Academic All-WAC honors.
Twenty-seven UTRGV student-athletes earned Spring Academic All-WAC honors while an additional 26 student-athletes earned 27 Freshmen and Transfers Academic All-WAC awards.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year at the institution, including legacy institutions The University of Texas-Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, or 20 percent for pitchers.
A total of 331 spring student-athletes competing in the aforementioned sports, as well as softball and men's and women's golf, were named to the list. Additionally, 316 freshman and transfers earned the honor for a total of 647 student-athletes.
