CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's basketball team fell to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 71-41 on Wednesday at Dugan Wellness Center as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
UTRGV's (6-2) lead over Corpus Christi (5-3) in the showdown is now 15.5-9.5.
Junior
Quynne Huggins led UTRGV with 12 points and five rebounds. Junior
Jameka Dowell scored a career-high 11 points with two steals.
Emma Young led Corpus Christi with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Brittany Mbamalu scored 14 points with six rebounds.
Uri Jolivette scored 12 points with six rebounds.

Young bookended an 8-0 run with layups to put Corpus Christi ahead 8-6 before a layup by graduate student
Marie-Fatou Gueye tied the game.
UTRGV regained the lead with 21 seconds remaining in the second quarter when a Huggins three made the score 25-24, but Corpus Christi responded with a 24-5 run to take the lead for good.
UTRGV is back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. against UMass on day one of the Battle on the Border of the Tournament. UTSA faces Mississippi Valley State at 4:30 p.m. Doors open at 3:30.
The next event in South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, is on Dec. 6 when men's basketball hosts Corpus Christi.
