Final Results
CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's golf team finished in eighth place at the Islander Classic on Tuesday at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
UTRGV posted a final round 324 to finish with a three-round score of 932 as they finished just three strokes behind Lamar, who posted a three-round score of 929. Sam Houston State won the team championship with a three-round score of 904.
UTRGV finished behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who finished in third place, giving Texas A&M-Corpus Christi two points in the South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi now leads 21-17.
The next event in the showdown will be on Friday when UTRGV hosts the RGV Classic College Meet for the track and field outdoor season opener.
Sophomore
Shweta Mansingh posted the best finish for the squad as she finished tied for seventh with a three-round score of 225 after shooting a final round 83. Sophomore
Michelle Moroles finished tied for 12
th with a three-round score of 228 after turning in a final round 78.
Junior
Jessica Young finished tied for 45
th with a three-round score of 243 with a final round 78. Sophomore
Emma Mesta finished in 54
th with a three-round score of 247 after a final round 90 and freshman
Tilda Green finished tied for 55
th with a three-round score of 251 after final roun d 85.
UTRGV will be back in action on Monday March 6 when they host the UTRGV Invitational at the McAllen Country Club.
