Final Results
MCALLEN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's golf team moved up two spots on the final day of the UTRGV Invitational to finish in sixth on Tuesday at McAllen Country Club.
UTRGV posted a final round 302 to finish with a three-round score of 941. They finished five strokes behind Xavier for fifth place as they finished with a three-round score of 936. Sam Houston State won the team championship after posting a final round 295 for a three-round score of 907.
UTRGV did finish in front of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which gives them two points towards the South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished in seventh place with a three-round score of 942.
UTRGV now trails Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 25-19 in the standings. The next events are currently taking place in Corpus Christi as the men's and women's tennis teams are facing off for two points each.
Leading the way for UTRGV in the final round of the invitational was sophomore and Sharyland High School alum
Michelle Moroles, who finished tied for eighth place with a three-round score of 229. She saved her best round of the tournament for the last day as she posted a three-over par 74.
Junior
Jessica Young posted a final round 75 to finish tied for 22
nd with a three-round score of 237. Sophomore
Emma Mesta finished two shots behind Young with a three-round score of 239 after posting a final round 76 to finish tied for 30
th.
Sophomore
Shweta Mansingh finished tied for 36
th with a three-round score of 241 after shooting a final round 82 and sophomore
Daniela Mendez finished in 63
rd with a three-round score of 264 as she improved by 21 strokes with a final round 77.
Individually, freshman
Tilda Green finished tied for 25
th after posting a final round 76 to finish with a three-round score of 238. Senior
Geraldine Torrellas finished tied with Mesta in 30
th with a three-round score of 240 after carding a final round 83 and senior
Kelsey Canales finished in 53
rd with a three-round score of 267 after a final round 85.
Sam Houston State's Heather Shake win the individual medalist with a three-round score of 223 after posting a final round one-over par 72.
UTRGV will be back in action on Saturday when they compete at the Grand Canyon Invite in Phoenix, Arizona.
