EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team opened the 2017-18 South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, with a 1-0 double overtime victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
UTRGV, which is off to the first 3-0-0 start in NCAA Division I program history, now leads Corpus Christi (1-2-0) 3-0 in the showdown standings.

Jada MacLean, who spun past a defender and found the lower left corner of the net to end the match.
It was MacLean's first-career goal.
Senior Harlingen South alum
Erica Gonzalez (2-0-0) made two saves for the win.
Abbie Flax (1-2-0) finished with five saves.
UTRGV outshot Corpus Christi 18-4, including 6-2 on goal.
UTRGV opens up the second UTRGV Tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Stetson.
It's part of the Best Week Ever at UTRGV and UTRGV Athletics is hosting a Back to School Night for students right after the STOMP.
UTRGV students are encouraged to check out the spirit stations that lead to the soccer complex to pick up their free spirit swag just in time for the women's soccer match.
