EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team's rally fell just short as they fell 3-4 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christ on Tuesday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center
 
UTRGV (4-5) found themselves trailing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-1) 3-1 after dropping the doubles point and singles matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
 
Senior Koby Jansen got UTRGV on the board with a win over Francois Kellerman at the No. 1 spot. Jansen dropped the first set 6-7 before forcing a third set with a 6-3 win in the second. It was a battle in the third as Jansen came away with the 7-5 victory and the point.
 
Freshman Zane Kohrs got UTRGV within one with a win at the No. 4 spot over Thomas Rodrigues. Kohrs opened the match with a 6-3 win in the first set before falling 1-6 in the second. In the final set, Kohrs and Rodrigues went back and forth before Kohrs came away with the 7-6 victory in the third.
 
Sophomore Clément Sarradin tied things at 3-3 with a three-set victory at the No. 5 spot. Sarradin got things started with a 6-3 win in the first set before falling 2-6 in the second. Sarradin then returned the favor with a 6-2 win in the third making the match at No. 6 a winner-take-all match.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi clinched the win as it came away with a victory at the No. 6 spot.  
 
With the win, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has now tied the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, at 18.5 points apiece. Whichever school wins the women's tennis match will take the two-point lead with next showdown event coming up on March 5-6 with the women's golf UTRGV Invitational. 

UTRGV will be back in action this weekend when it competes at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi from March 2-3.
