EDINBURG – The Western Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday that for the second week in a row junior Alvaro Hernandez of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's golf team has been named WAC Golfer of the Week.

Hernandez posted his second straight top-10 finish after tying for eighth place out of 75 total golfers at the Colin Montgomerie Intercollegiate. Hernandez opened the tournament with a four-under par 68 before closing out with a second round 73 and a final round even par 72 for a three-under par total of 213.

Hernandez earned the honors last week after winning the individual title at the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate last week and leading UTRGV to its first team championship since 2012. He guided UTRGV to a third place finish out of 13 teams this week.

UTRGV will be back in action from March 9-10 when it competes at the Border Olympics in Laredo.
