Hunger Action Month
October is Hunger Action Month and UTRGV Athletics partners with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley to collect non-perishable food items at various athletic events. Fans that donate five canned food items to a designated “Orange Out” game will receive free general admission or a t-shirt.
BelieVe in a Cure
To help raise breast cancer awareness, UTRGV Athletics partners with Doctors Hospital at Renaissance to host a number of pink games. Fans are able to purchase a pink “BelieVe in a Cure” t-shirt for $10 to help support the Renaissance Cancer Foundation, which raises money for cancer research.
UTRGV Madness
UTRGV Madness celebrates the start of our men’s and women’s basketball season. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the community rally together in school spirit to enjoy an action-packed night of contests, cool prizes, a live DJ, and a student organization dance off.
Tim’s Coats
UTRGV Athletics hosts a coat drive during the fall semester to collect coats for local families in need. Fans who donate a new or gently used coat to a designated game, will received free general admission. For 30 years, Chief Meteorologist Tim Smith and CHANNEL 5 NEWS, in conjunction with the Southwest Dry Cleaners Association, has collected more than 140,000 coats. The coats are distributed locally through Catholic Social Services and Salvation Army.
Strike Out Hunger
To help address hunger and food insecurity in the Rio Grande Valley, fans are encouraged to donate five non-perishable food items at every Sunday baseball home game to receive free general admission. All donations benefit the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.
