Mesta to Compete in IGPM Classic Monterrey August 25-27

EDINBURG – University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's golf incoming freshman Emma Mesta has been selected to play in the IGPM Classic Monterrey at La Herradura Club de Golf from August 25-27.

Mesta is one of two amateurs selected to compete alongside many professionals from the Symetra Tour and other international tours. The Symetra Tour is designated as the LPGA's official developmental tour and its mission is to prepare the world's best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour.

"I am excited for her to have the opportunity to test herself on a large scale against many professionals that have recently competed at the highest level in collegiate golf," Vaqueros head coach Risë Alexander said.

The field of 35 competitors will feature golfers from Argentina, Colombia, Canada, Korea, Mexico and the United States. The winner will be presented the tournament trophy by Lorena Ochoa, who was the top-ranked golfer in the world from 2007 until her retirement from the LPGA Tour in 2010.

The IGPM Classic Monterrey gives Mesta a final opportunity to test herself before starting the fall semester.
