Edinburg, Texas - Abilene Christian University (12-4) held on for a 4-3 win over
the University of Texas-Pan American (5-4) at the Orville Cox Tennis Center tonight. This is the third loss in a row for the Broncs who drop to 0-3 at home.
Abilene Christian jumped to a 3-0 lead before the Broncs
put up a valiant comeback. Wins from Jeremy Salvo (Jr./Coquitlam, British
Columbia, Canada/Centennial Secondary) at Number 1 Singles, Tom Mangelschots
(Sr./Limburg, Belgium/KA 2 HS) at Number 4 Singles and Rehman Esmail
(So./Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/North Carolina State) at Number 6
Singles tied the match at 3-3. It came down to Number 3 Singles where George
Carstens beat Gary Bianco (Fr./Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) 6-4,
0-6, 10-8.
"I'm very pleased with the way we fought back." Said
assistant coach Kati Gyulai. "We put up a strong effort today. I know we
will carry this effort over into the rest of our matches and continue to get
stronger."
Texas-Pan American is back at the Orville Cox Tennis
Stadium, Saturday, March 13 taking on Texas Southern. The match is scheduled to
start at 10:00 a.m.
