South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi compete against each other in a rivalry series across 14 sports annually to earn the South Texas Showdown Championship, presented by Rally Credit Union.
 
Amp-up and be sure to wear orange! Let’s show Corpus Christi that the Rio Grande Valley has the No. 1 athletics program in the region, as well as the most passionate and energetic fans in South Texas!
 
Points System

  • Each institution will receive three points for each win in volleyball, women's soccer, and men's and women's basketball and tennis, as well as to whichever team finishes higher at the designated women's golf event.
  • Each institution will receive two points for each win in baseball as well as which ever team finishes higher at the Southland men's and women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field events championships.
  • The tiebreaker is based on which institution finishes highest in the Southland Academic Award standings.
Trophy

The yearly champion will be presented with a traveling trophy at the final meeting of the academic year. The champion will retain possession of the trophy until the following year’s trophy presentation.

UTRGV needs your support to  Be one of the first fans to arrive at designated home showdown events to get your limited edition “South Texas Showdown” t-shirt. A list of designated events will be available at a later date. Gates open one hour prior to the start of each event.
 
Use the hashtag on Twitter and Instagram to see yourself on the video board during home showdown volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball games.
  
Sportsmanship
 
Each school and its student-athletes (fans) will conduct themselves in a way demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout all competition
  • Play fair, take defeat without complaint or victory without gloating
  • Respect others and one’s self
  • Impose self-control, be courteous, and gracefully accept results of one’s actions
