EDINBURG, TX-It took The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team nearly the whole first game to get things going against Prairie View A&M in their 2003 home opener Tuesday evening.

The Lady Broncs pulled away at the end of the first game and defeated the Lady Panthers, 30-24, 30-17 and 30-15 at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

"I think we had the jitters, it being our first home game of the season," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "In the first 18 points of the first game, we had nine errors, either hitting or serving errors. Once we get rolling, it was a lot smoother."

Prairie View A&M out hit the Lady Broncs in the first game, .057-.051. However, Texas-Pan American amassed 37 kills in the final two games of the match, out hitting the Lady Panthers, .261 to minus .079.

Senior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS), who moved into first place on the UTPA career lists for kills and digs last weekend, turned in another fine performance. Muszynski led the Lady Broncs with 15 kills and 15 digs and hit .294. Freshman outside hitter Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango HS) added 11 kills, and junior outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, TX/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) added 10 kills.

Mary Reese led Prairie View with seven kills, while Jonette Ozen added six.

"It was good to get off to a good start," said Thorn. "I'm glad we got this one under our belt, and we played well."

The Lady Broncs improved to 2-2 with the victory, while the Lady Panthers fell to 4-1. Texas-Pan American will return to action when they visit the Stephen F. Austin Tournament this weekend.
