NACOGDOCHES, TX-For the second consecutive weekend, the third time was the charm for The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team. The Lady Broncs scored the final five points of the fourth game and defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in four games, 30-23, 30-26, 28-30 and 30-28 in their third and final match at Stephen F. Austin's tournament. UTPA fell to host Stephen F. Austin earlier Saturday, 30-21, 30-20 and 30-28.

Senior outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer led Texas-Pan American's attack. She had 22 kills and 16 digs while hitting .426. Senior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) added 19 kills and 18 digs, freshman outside hitter Chrissie Carrigan (Victoria, BC/Mount Douglas SS) had 11 kills and 11 digs, and sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) added 12 kills and four blocks. Freshman libero Carol Marcengo (Curitiba, Brazil/SPEI HS) added 12 digs. Marcengo had 43 digs in three games, and earned All-Tournament honors.

Lesley Tough led the Ragin' Cajuns with 21 kills and 16 digs, hitting .405, while Beth Henson added 14 kills, 20 digs and 29 assists while hitting .286. The Lady Broncs out hit Louisiana-Lafayette, .250-.215.

"I liked the fact that we came from behind to win in the fourth game," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "We made the plays when we needed them. Cathi had a monster game, she was just awesome. Stephanie Redd had a good game, Chrissie and Jackie played well, and Carol had some very important digs."

In the opener, Netemeyer had nine kills and 13 digs to lead the Lady Broncs. Carrigan added eight kills and eight digs, sophomore setter Sandy Darway (San Luis Obispo, CA/Arroyo Grande HS) had 24 assists and 10 digs, and Marcengo added 10 digs. Brittany Burton had 14 kills and 12 digs to lead SFA, which had 10 blocks. The Lady Broncs hit .080 and committed 15 service errors.

"We led the whole third game, and they came back and ran off a bunch of points at the end, and we couldn't close it out," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "We had too many service errors."

Texas-Pan American improved to 3-4 with the victory, while Louisiana-Lafayette fell to 2-4. The Lady Broncs will return to action when they host Texas State-San Marcos (formerly Southwest Texas State) Tuesday evening.
