FORT WORTH, TX - The University of Texas-Pan American fell to
host Texas Christian in three games tonight in a first round match at TCU's
Adidas Invitational. The Horned Frogs downed Texas-Pan American, 30-21, 30-18
and 30-23 at the University Recreation Center.
Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin,
TX/Seguin HS) led the Lady Broncs, hitting.312 with eight kills and two blocks.
Senior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) had nine kills and
added seven digs, while freshman outside hitter Heather Bravo (Las Vegas,
NV/Durango HS) and freshman libero Carol Marcengo (Curitiba, Brazil/SPEI HS) had
11 digs each.
Leading the way for TCU was Ellen Rehme who had 16 kills and
hit .394, Dominika Szabo who had 10 kills, 14 digs and four service aces, and
Toni Barlow who had 41 assists. The Horned Frogs hit .311 for the match as they
improved to 7-1 this season.
"They just overwhelmed us at the net,"
said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "We out blocked them, 8-6, and played good
defense. They got us on the kills, 51-28. TCU had four people who had all but
seven of their kills. Those four just killed us."
The Lady Broncs fell to 3-6 with the
defeat. They will return top action Saturday when they play Arkansas State and
Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the TCU Adidas Invitational.
