CORPUS CHRISTI - The University of Texas-Pan American's
volleyball team extended its winning streak with a 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-26) win
over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday morning. The Lady Broncs have now won
their last two matches to improve to 14-12.
Cathi Netemeyer (Jr./Los Fresnos, Texas/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa)
had an outstanding match with 27 kills, two service aces and a .408 hitting
percentage to ignite the UTPA attack. Her 27 kills is a career high, and ranks
among the top 10 in single-match school history.
Jaclyn Muszynski (Sr./Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) had 13 kills
and 16 digs and moved into second place on the career list for games played with
442. She needs six more games to break the mark of 447 by Maria Velasquez
(1993-96). Heather Bravo (Fr./Las Vegas, Nev./Durango HS) had a solid defensive
match with 15 digs and two block assists. Karen Lyons (Fr./McAllen,
Texas/McAllen Memorial HS) directed the offense with 46 assists, and added 11
digs.
"This was a much better trip to Corpus Christi than the last
time," said UTPA Volleyball Head Coach Dave Thorn. "We played really solid.
Cathi just had an awesome match, she was unstoppable. We were up 29-19 in the
third game and Corpus scored seven straight points. They were just making plays
everywhere. We called a timeout, and then got the point to end the match.
Anytime you can beat a rival is a great win. Corpus always plays us tough and
anytime you can go on the road and come away with a win is a good thing."
The Lady Broncs return to the friendly confines of the UTPA
Fieldhouse on Oct. 31, to take on UTEP. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00
p.m.
