HOUSTON, TX-It's been nearly two months since The University
of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team played two matches in a single day.
The Lady Broncs did just that Monday, defeating Prairie View A&M, 28-30, 28-30,
30-21, 30-24 and 15-11, then traveling across town and downing Texas Southern,
30-16, 30-17, 21-30 and 30-13.
Senior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS)
and sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) led Texas-Pan
American's attack. Each had 22 kills against the Panthers, and Muszynski added
21 digs, while Redd had five blocks. Freshman outside hitter Heather Bravo (Las
Vegas, NV/Durango HS) had 15 kills and 20 digs, while freshman libero Carol Marcengo (Curitiba, Brazil/SPEI HS) added 21 digs.
"Any time you're on the road, you have to come together as a group, and we were
able to make the plays when we needed them," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn.
"Stephanie and Jaclyn were both offensive forces for us; they both had real good
days. Jaclyn is a senior and a warrior, and she did what she had to do to help
the team. It was tough playing back-to-back matches halfway across Houston, and
Prairie View is much improved, they're the number one team in their conference
right now. We came through when we needed to, and won the last three games
against them."
With the victories, the Lady Broncs improved to 18-12, while
PVAMU dropped to 17-12. Texas-Pan American will return to action when they
travel to Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne for the Independent Tournament this weekend.
