Box Score

Remember one of the most memorable lines in the Wizard of Oz - "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my... lions and tigers and bears, oh my."

Well - The University of Texas-Pan American should have taken Dorothy's advice and avoided the last one as the Lady Broncs fell to the Baylor University Bears in the straight sets (30-20, 30-19, 30-21) at the Ferrell Center in Waco, TX, on Wed. (Sept. 8).

Led by a solid offensive attack, Baylor (2-3) picked up its second victory of the season, concluding a two-match skid. In the second game, the Bears ended with a .455 percentage while hitting .286 in the final set. Des Guilliard-Young finished the contest with a hitting percentage of .727 with eight kills in 11 total attacks.

Nicole LeBlanc led the Bears with 12 kills while setter Emily Huston added 34 assists and eight digs. Kristen Schramek had a team-high 12 digs for the Bear.

The Lady Broncs (3-2) had two players lead the squad with nine kills apiece in senior Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South H.S.) and sophomore Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.). Karen Lyons (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) finished with a team-high 17 assists while Jen Dameworth (El Paso, TX/Franklin H.S.) added 10 assists and five digs to the cause.
