Lady Broncs Fall to NDSU in Straight Sets

The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday (Nov. 12) to finish in eighth place at the National Independent Tournament in Greeley, CO.

North Dakota State 3, UTPA 0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-25)
The Lady Broncs' offense finished with a dismal .009 hitting percentage in the match, committing 32 errors compared to 33 kills in 112 total attempts. The Bison offense committed 27 miscues in the match, but collected 39 kills and a .109 hitting percentage.

For the Lady Broncs, senior Danielle Holthe (Covina, CA/Amat Bishop Memorial) finished with a team-high nine kills to go along with five blocks, including a pair of solo blocks. Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) finished with a match-high 30 assists in the match along with six digs and a pair of blocks.

Kim Hebl posted a match-high 12 kills along with a .308 hitting percentage, committing only four miscues in 26 total attempts. Sheila Parrish dished out 21 assists while Kari Fagnan collected 13 digs in the match.

The Lady Broncs dropped their record to 10-18 on the season while North Dakota State improved to 4-31. UTPA will play the loser of the Providence and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi match to determine seventh place at the National Independent Tournament at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 12).

The Lady Broncs recorded an eighth place after dropping a five-set match against Texas A&M - Corpus Christ to finish 0-5 at the National Independent Tournament.

Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) notched a double-double (kills-digs) in the match with a 15-kill, 11-dig performance while Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) collected a double-double (kills-digs) of her own with 11 kills and 14 digs.

Blakely dished out 48 assists and picked up 15 digs in the match while Chrissie Carrigan (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Mount Douglas H.S.) finished with a match-high 23 digs.

As a team, the Lady Broncs finished with a .084 hitting percentage compared to .206 at the hands of the Islanders. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi held a 68-53 advantage in the kills' category and recorded 62 assists compared to 52 for the Lady Broncs.

The Lady Broncs finished the season with a 10-19 record while Texas A&M - Corpus Christi posted a 14-15 mark.
