Broncs Fall to Texas State 5-0

The University of Texas - Pan American (2-6) baseball team suffered a 5-0 setback against Texas State on Tuesday (Feb. 15) at Bobcat Field in San Marcos, TX. The Broncs recorded six hits in the contest, but were unable to score against the Bobcat defense.

Texas State would score its first run of the night in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead 1-0. UTPA was unable to get the bats going offensively in the fourth inning, but defended well as the Bobcats recorded two more hits, but where sent back into the field with one runner left on base in the bottom of the fourth.

It was in the seventh inning when the Bobcats would score three more runs off of three hits, including a lead-off home run to push the lead to 5-0. In two more opportunities at bat, the Broncs were only able to get one hit as Zach Gordon (Corpus Christi, TX/Midland College) doubled to right center in the top of the ninth. Despite their six hits on the night, the Broncs had a hard time getting players in scoring position as the Bobcats took the victory 5-0.

Junior Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) was the squad's leading hitter with two hits in his four plate appearances. The Broncs posted two errors in the contest, one of them coming in the Bobcats three-run seventh inning.

Dane Mason (Marlton, NJ/Oklahoma State) recorded the loss on the mound to take his record to 0-3 on the season. He pitched 5.0 innings and recorded five strikeouts while giving up seven hits.
