Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision to UTA

The University of Texas - Pan American men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback Sunday (Mar. 20) in Southland Conference action against the University of Texas - Arlington in Arlington, TX.

The Broncs were able to notch the doubles point as Jeremy Salvo (Conquitlam, B.C., Canada/Centennial Secondary) and Rehman Esmail (Conquitlam, B.C., Canada/North Carolina State) paired for an 8-5 win in the top doubles flight. Gary Bianco (Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) and Oliver Steil (Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) finished with and identical score in the second slot over UTA's Diego Mattar and Alberto Agis. UTPA's No. three doubles team of Nik Porter (Tunbridge Wells, England/Bennett Memorial School) and Pierre Cantu (El Paso, TX/Eastwood H.S.) fell short 8-5 against the duo of Niels Buksik and Ian Vazqeuz.

In singles play, the Broncs dropping in five of the six matches. Getting the solo victory for his team was Salvo with a straight set win, 6-4 and 6-3, over Buksik in the No. two slot. Playing in the top spot was Bianco who fell, 6-3 and 7-5, to Farquharson. The rest of the matches would go in favor of the Maverick's as they took the match 5-2.

The Broncs will be back in action at home in matches against Laredo Community College Tuesday (Mar. 22) at the Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, TX starting at 1:00 p.m.
