The University of Texas - Pan American women's tennis team split matches over the weekend (April 8-9) against Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. After dropping a 5-2 decision against TSU, the team rebounded with a 6-0 sweep over PVAMU.

UTPA dropped the doubles point in play against TSU, and then suffered three singles losses to drop the match 5-2. Winning her first match in the No. 1 single spot for the Lady Broncs was freshman Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/Salier Gymnasium). Buksik battled back from being a set down, to win the match 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4. The other singles win came in the No. 3 slot where UTPA's Elysia Sloan (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville H.S.) finished off TSU's Deya Balboa, 6-3 and 6-1.

In the second match on the weekend, the Lady Broncs posted their second match win with a 6-0 victory over PVAMU. Buksik would collect another win in the top spot after defeating Marika Dawkins of PVAMU in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-2. Paired with teammate Katherine Barto (Laredo, TX/St. Augustine H.S.), the duo picked up the No. 1 doubles win by an 8-4 mark.

The Lady Broncs would record wins in all the singles matches against PVAMU, including straight set wins for Barto, Sloan and Angela Saenz (Premont, TX/Premont H.S.) to seal the match. In the No. 5 single slot, Monica Lopez (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) would pick up her second match win of the season with a three set victory (6-7, 6-4, 6-3) over the Panther's Shannon McCleary.

The Lady Broncs will be back on the courts in a dual match against Trinity University on Saturday (April 16) in San Antonio, TX.
