Broncs Suffer 16 Run Defeat From UTSA

The University of Texas - Pan American baseball team gave up 25 hits and committed six errors to give the University of Texas - San Antonio a 23-7 victory on Wednesday (April 20) at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Broncs gave up ten runs to the Roadrunners in the fifth inning to give them the 12-4 lead in the contest. The offense of UTSA would then continue as they collected 11 more hits in the final four innings of play sealing the 16 run victory.

For the Broncs, Aaron Flowers (Rowlett, TX/Northeast Texas C.C.) hit his fourth home run of the season as he lead off in the sixth inning, and the team would go on to collect two runs in the eighth, but the Roadrunners continued to dominate scoring four more runs in the top of the ninth. UTPA was unable to score anything in their final at bat and suffered the loss to take them to 12-30 on the season.

Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) was the offensive leader for the Broncs scoring three runs and collecting three hits in his four at-bats. On the mound, UTPA's Kelly Casares (Missouri City, TX/McClennan J.C.) suffered the loss moving him to 1-4 this season.

UTSA had five batters finish with three hits on the night and posted 18 RBI in the contest. Mark Ruffin picked up the win on the mound to move his record to 4-5 while the team is now 17-24 on the season.

The Broncs will host their final home game series starting on Friday (April 22) with the first of three games against Western Kentucky University starting at 7:30 p.m.
