Box Score
The University of Texas - Pan American baseball team lost the first of a two-game series against Texas Christian University on Tuesday (Apr. 26), 9-2, on the road at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX.
The early lead would be too much for the Broncs who found themselves down 6-0 by the end of the third inning of play. The Horned Frogs would produce a five-run inning in the third frame to take the early lead and would hold on the advantage for the remainder of the game.
In the fourth inning, the Broncs would find some offense as Ricky Broyles (Longview, TX/Northeast Texas C.C.) led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Junior Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) would then hit and RBI single to score Broyles and put the Broncs on the scoreboard down 6-1. Alamia's two hits in the contest move him three shy of the career hits mark currently held by Marco Garza with 193.
TCU would then respond with a single run of their own in the fifth to push the lead back to six, 7-1, headed into the fifth inning of play. In that frame, the Broncs would score another run after Matt Eichel (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine H.S.) hit and RBI double to take the score to 7-2.
Both teams would then go scoreless through two late innings of play before the Horned Frogs scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to go up 9-2. The Broncs were unable to produce any offense in the final inning and posted the 9-2 loss moving them to 14-32 on the season.
Broyles, Alamia and Eichel all finished the game with two hits on the night, while the team finished with seven total hits in the contest. TCU would post 11 hits and moved their record to 29-13 this season.
On the mound, Mark Rodriguez (San Antonio, TX/Howard J.C.) suffered the loss taking him to 1-1 on the season. TCU's Sam Demel recorded his third win this season moving him to 3-4 on the year.
The Broncs will play their second game of the series against the Horned Frogs on Wednesday (Apr. 27) at 11:00 a.m., and then continue play on the road heading to Dallas Baptist for a three-game series beginning on Thursday (Apr. 28).
