The University of Texas - Pan American baseball team played game two of a series with Texas Christian University on Wednesday (Apr. 27) and suffered the shutout, 8-0, in Fort Worth, TX, at Lupton Stadium.
Both teams went scoreless in the first three innings of play before TCU posted back-to-back three run innings to take the lead 6-0 headed into the sixth inning of play. The TCU pitching staff was too much for the Broncs striking out eight batters in the contest.
The Horned Frogs defense only gave the Broncs only three hits in the contest while they saw four players finish with multiple hits in the game. Leading TCU was Bo Cogbill, who finished with three of his team's 14 total hits.
UTPA's Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) posted one hit to take him one step closer to breaking the school record for career hits. His current 192 career hits is one shy of the current record held by Marco Garza with 193 hits. The other two Broncs to post hits in the contest were right fielder Jacob Jones (Kress, TX/Texas Tech University) and designated hitter J.P. Mackie (McAllen, TX/Sharyland H.S.).
Ryne Foster (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park H.S.) pitched 7.1 innings of the contest striking out one batter, while not giving up any walks. Foster had the Frogs off balance the first time through the order as he gave up only one hit in the first three innings of play. The loss takes Foster to 0-7 on the season, while the team moves to 14-33. TCU's Zach Ashwood pitched 5.0 innings for the Frogs striking out four batters while walking one to record his second win on the mound this season.
The Broncs will continue on the road to play Dallas Baptist in a three-game series beginning on Thursday (Apr. 28) at Patriot Field in Dallas, TX. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
