The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program suffered its sixth straight loss with an 8-2 setback in the series finale with Dallas Baptist on Saturday (Apr. 30) at Patriot Field in Dallas, TX.
With the victory, Dallas Baptist improved its record to 27-20 on the season while UT - Pan American dropped to 14-36 in the 2005 campaign.
The Broncs had a problem stifling the Patriots' offense for the third consecutive game as Dallas Baptist pounded out 14 hits in the contest. Jeremy Goldschmeding and Ryan Olive each added three hits a piece while Matt Tucker picked up a pair of hits along with two RBI and one runs scored.
Dallas Baptist took an early 4-1 lead over UTPA heading into the latter stages of the game then slowly secured the game with a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take the 8-2 victory.
Bobby Gomez (Falfurrias, TX/Falfurrias H.S.) suffered the loss for the Broncs and dropped his record to 1-3 on the season as he allowed all eight runs over the course of 7.1 innings. He scattered 13 hits while striking out just one hitter.
Mark Rodriguez (San Antonio, TX/Howard J.C.) was the Broncs' top offensive player as he collected a team-high two hits while J.P. Mackie (Mission, TX/Sharyland H.S.) and Jacob Jones (Kress, TX/Texas Tech University) each drove in a run for UTPA.
Rodney Brantley picked up the win for the Patriots and improved his record to 4-4 on the season, hurling 5.1 innings. He allowed only one run on three hits and struck out five in the contest.
The Broncs will be back in action on Tuesday (May 3) in Austin, TX, where UTPA will square off against nationally-ranked Texas. First pitch is slated for 6:15 p.m.
