The University of Texas - Pan American women's tennis team suffered two match losses on Saturday (April 2) in Beaumont, TX, in contests against Lamar University and Southeastern Louisiana University. Both schools swept the Lady Broncs 7-0 dropping them to 1-5 on the season.
UTPA faced off against SLU in the first match of the day, and dropped the doubles point as Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/Salier Gymnasium) and Katherine Barto (Laredo, TX/St. Augustine H.S.) fell 8-4 in the top spot. In the second doubles flight, Elysia Sloan (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville H.S.) and Angela Saenz (Premont, TX/Premont H.S.) fell 8-1, and the third doubles match went to the Lions due to a default by the Lady Broncs who were limited to only five available players in the match.
The team was unable to take any of the singles points in the match as they fell in straight sets in every contest. Buksik played the top spot for UTPA and fell to SLU's Emilija Arnaudouska, 6-1 and 6-1.
The Lady Broncs would have the same problems in the match with Lamar. Due to the limited roster, the team would default in the No. three double spot and the No. six singles match.
Lamar wouldn't give up a single game in doubles play, and took the point quickly winning both matches 8-0. In singles, the Cardinals would also take every match in straight sets leaving the Lady Broncs scoreless in the match 7-0.
The Lady Broncs will be back on the courts in duel matches against Grambling State, and Prairie View A&M on Friday (April 8) in Houston, TX.
