The University of Texas - Pan American baseball team suffered a 14-6 setback in game two of their three-game series with Louisiana - Lafayette. Centerfielder Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/North Edinburg H.S.) posted three of the Broncs eight hits in the contest played in Lafayette, LA.
The Broncs would score first collecting two runs in the opening inning of play after Jacob Jones (Kress, TX/Texas Tech University) hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Alamia. An error by the Ragin' Cajuns would score the Broncs their second run of the game and give them the lead 2-0.
The Cajuns would then tie things up with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second with the help of two of the Broncs four errors coming in that frame. UTPA would then take the advantage 3-1 scoring in the third after Matt Eichel (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine H.S.) hit an RBI single to center field.
In the bottom of the third, the Broncs would give up one hit, a home run to left field, that would tie the score again 3-3. The defense of the Cajuns would then hold the Broncs scoreless while they pulled ahead with eight total runs over the next three innings of play.
UTPA would finally respond with a two-run inning in the seventh after Alamia and Otis Powers (Brownsville, TX/Simon Rivera H.S.) both hit doubles for two runs off of two hits in the frame. With the 11-5 advantage, the Cajuns would continue to have success offensively scoring three more runs to the Broncs one run, and collecting the victory 14-6.
Alamia led the Broncs at-bat posting three hits and three runs in the contest, while hitting his first triple on the season. Powers had a two-hit performance while collecting a team-high two RBI on the night. The Cajuns had five batters finish with multiple hit performances.
On the mound, the Broncs Kelly Casares (Missouri City, TX/McClennan J.C.) suffered the loss giving up six of 14 hits Louisiana - Lafayette posted. The setback takes him to 1-3 on the season while Austin Faught moved to 6-0 on the season for the Cajuns.
The Broncs will play their final game on the road against Louisiana - Lafayette on Sunday (April 10) starting at 1:00 p.m.
