Lady Broncs Drop Sixth Straight Match After Setback

The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball team dropped its sixth straight match as the Lady Broncs suffered a 3-0 setback (30-14, 30-20, 30-27) to TCU on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Fort Worth, TX.

The Horned Frogs recorded one of their top offensive performances of the season against the Lady Broncs as they recorded a .402 hitting percentage, including a .536 hitting percentage in their 30-14 first-set victory.

In the final two frames, the Horned Frogs collected hitting percentages of .333 and .366 while the Lady Broncs posted .341 hitting percentage in the third frame, but only managed to record a .196 mark for the entire match.

TCU senior Anna Vaughn notched a team-high 16 kills in the match to go along with a .429 hitting percentage and a match-high nine total blocks. The Horned Frogs' middle blocker was one of four offensive performers to collect a .400 or higher hitting percentage in the match.

Kourtney Edwards finished with eight kills and Emily Allen notched seven kills while finishing with hitting percentages of .636 and .700, respectively. Nirelle Hampton dished out a team-high 33 assists to go along with seven blocks, six digs and five kills.

The Horned Frogs finished with match highs in kills (49-43), hitting percentage (.402-.195), service aces (6-1), digs (39-37) and total blocks (11.5-2.0).

UTPA senior Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) notched her second consecutive 20-kill performance as she finished with a match-high 20 kills along with five digs while Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) notched 10 kills and nine digs for the Lady Broncs.

Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) was the only player in the contest to post a double-double as she finished with 33 assists and 10 digs.

The Lady Broncs dropped their record to 4-19 on the season while the Horned Frogs improved to 16-6 during the 2006 campaign.
