North Dakota State University rallied off a straight-sets victory (30-20, 30-16, 30-20) over the UTPA Lady Broncs on Saturday (Oct. 21) evening at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, ND.
With the setback, the Lady Broncs fell to 4-21 on the season while the Bison improved to 14-10 during the 2006 campaign.
The Bison tallied a team hitting percentage of .277 in the match, including a .457 mark in the third frame, while the Lady Broncs were hurt by team miscues en route to finishing with a .056 hitting percentage.
The Lady Broncs held several advantages in the match, including kills (40-39), total attacks (143-101), assists (38-36) and digs (48-46), but they forced 32 errors in the contest compared to only 11 for the Bison while North Dakota State held a huge advantage in total blocks by a 17.0 to 2.0 margin.
Sheila Parrish notched a double-double for the Bison with 10 kills and 10 digs while Christy Stuewe collected 10 kills and seven blocks. Mattie Johnson led the NDSU offense with 34 assists, and Chloe Quirk finished the match with a team-high 11 kills and seven digs.
Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) led the UTPA offensive attacks with a match-high 16 kills to go along with seven digs while Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) notched 10 kills and five digs. Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out a team-high 29 digs, and Karen Lyons (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) collected a match-high 15 digs in the contest.
The Lady Broncs will be back in action against Lamar in Beaumont, TX, on Halloween evening.
