Lady Broncs Fall to UVSC in Straight Sets

Nov. 4, 2006

The UTPA women's volleyball team dropped its 10th-straight contest and fell to 4-23 on the season as the Lady Broncs suffered a three-game setback to Utah Valley State on Saturday (Nov. 4) at the Shurian Family Activity Center in Orem, UT.

Despite the struggles this season, the Lady Broncs continue to battle in every game of every match, and Saturday night was no different for UTPA. In the first frame, the Lady Broncs and Wolverines battled one another to a 20-20 tie, but Utah Valley State was able to put together a 7-0 run en route to securing the 30-23 victory to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, the two Independent programs were once again tied with the score at 21-21, but Utah Valley State proved to be too tough on its home court as the Wolverines closed out the frame on a 9-0 run.

The Lady Broncs refused to go away quietly as they posted their highest team hitting percentage of the match in the third and final set with a .262 mark, but the Wolverines were able to match the visiting squad as they collected their highest hitting percentage and came away with the 30-24 victory to capture the match.

Jessica Endres and Camie Manwill each collected a team-high 12 kills in the contest while Endres finished with a .429 hitting percentage in the contest. Lacee Koelliker dished out a match-high 48 assists in her final home match of her career while Chelsea Baugh led the Wolverines defensively with 13 digs.

Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) collected a double-double in the contest with 12 kills and 14 digs while Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) led the Lady Broncs with a match-high 14 kills.

Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out a team-high 34 assists in the match while Karen Lyons (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) notched a match-high 15 digs in the contest.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 7) when they square-off against Texas A&M-International at 7:00 p.m. In their final home match of the 2006 season, the Lady Broncs will honor a pair of seniors in Bravo and Lyons prior to the beginning of the match.
