The Broncs started off the game slow, but were able to gain control of the scoreboard at the 10:10 mark following a pair of free throws by junior Zach Trader (LaPorte, TX/LaPorte H.S.) to make the score 18-17. UTPA was able to increase the lead to seven points at 25-18 at the 8:01 mark after junior Paul Stoll (Lansing, MI/Lansing C.C.) connected on two shots from the charity stripe.
After building a seven-point advantage, the Broncs went sour from the field as they only connected on two field goal attempts during the remainder of the first half leading to a 40-35 deficit heading into the locker rooms.
The second half didn't prove to be much better for the Broncs as Texas State continued to increase the leading to 13 points at 53-40 following a pair of free throws by Brent Holder with 14:41 remaining in the game.
