Bronc Diamondmen Drop 6-1 Decision to Lamar

Feb. 11, 2006

Box Score

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team suffered a 6-1 setback in the first of a three-game set against Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, on Saturday (Feb. 11).

Will Henderson provided all of the offense that the Cardinals would need as he blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning en route to allowing Lamar to take a 4-0 lead. Henderson's blast over the centerfield fence scored both Collin DeLome and Ryan Baker, who each reached base on singles up the middle.

That would be all the run support that Lamar starter Steve MacFarland would need as the Cardinals' hurler pitched five innings, giving up three hits while sitting down six batters. Allen Harrington came in during the sixth inning and pitched the final four innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three batters.

Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa C.C.) provided the offensive spark for the Broncs as he collected two hits in the contest, including his first home run of the season. Senior Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) added two hits in the game for the Broncs.

Ricky Ibarz (Caracas, Venezuela/New Mexico J.C.) suffered the loss in the game as he pitched five innings, giving up six runs - five earned - on five hits. He struck out five Cardinal batters in the contest. Chad Linder (Reklaw, TX/Rusk H.S.) and Aaron Guerra (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg H.S.) combined to throw the final three innings where the duo combined to strikeout four hitters.

The Broncs and Cardinals will square-off for the second time in as many days on Sunday (Feb. 12) with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
