The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team dropped its match today to Stephen F. Austin by a count of 6-1 in Corpus Christi, TX.
In doubles action, the number one Lady Broncs team of Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/Salier-Gymnasium Waiblingen) and Nicole Garcia (Cibolo, TX/Lee College) won their match over Kama Scott and Megan Langston, 8-4. Garcia was the only Lady Bronc to win her singles match, defeating Gaby Gadeva 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) in the fifth flight. Buksik lost in the first flight to Laura Harrison, 6-1, 6-1.
UTPA dropped both of its other two doubles matches, with Elysia Sloan (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville H.S.) and Sheila Mabulac (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg H.S.) falling in second flight action to L. Harrison and Lauren Nowicki 8-1. In the third flight, Marine de Bourqueney (Paris, France/Fenelon Sainte Marie) and Jessica Nanez (Hidalgo, TX/Hidalgo H.S.) fell by a 8-3 margin to Gadeva and Mary Harrison.
In singles action, De Bourqueny lost to Kama Scott 6-1, 6-3 and Nowicki defeated Sloan 6-0, 6-2 in the third flight. Langston handed Mabulac a 6-2, 6-3 loss in the fourth flight and Nanez lost a tight match to Whitney De Young by a score of 6-, 7-5.
The Lady Broncs fall to 1-6 on the season and next face Texas Southern in Corpus Christi on Friday (Feb. 17).
