Box Score
The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Texas Christian Horned Frogs on Friday (May 12) in Fort Worth, TX.
The Horned Frogs caught a break in the bottom of the third when the leadoff hitter reached base on an error. Bronc starter Ricky Ibarz (Caracas, Venezuela/New Mexico J.C.) struck out the next hitter before issuing a walk to Ryan Pack. Ibarz then induced a fielder's choice to second base that made it men on second and third with two outs. Steven Trout then guided a single up the middle to score two runs and give TCU a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth, a walk and two straight singles plated the Horned Frogs third run of the game and increased the Broncs deficit to three runs. TCU scored its fourth run in the seventh when Chad Huffman singled off reliever Aaron Guerra (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg H.S.) to drive in Pack.
Ibarz lasted six innings and allowed four runs, just two of them earned. He limited the Horned Frogs to just three hits but issued six walks while striking out four. His record fell to 4-6 on the season.
Joshua Talley (Great Falls, MT/New Mexico J.C.) was the only Bronc hitter with multiple hits, collecting a pair of hits in three at-bats. Talley had one of the only two extra-base hits for the Broncs with a double in the sixth inning. Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) recorded the other extra-base hit, a double in the fourth. He was 1-for-3 on the night.
With the loss, the Broncs fall to 23-27 on the season while TCU improved its record to 29-21.
The two teams next play on Saturday (May 13) at 3:00 p.m. at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX.
