Box Score

The Bronc baseball team lost its second straight game on Saturday (May 13) against the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, TX by a final of 6-3.

Bronc starter Dane Mason (Marlton, NJ/Oklahoma State) gave up an unearned run early as the Horned Frogs scored in the first on a Matt Carpenter single through the right side. TCU then added three more runs off Mason in the second inning thanks to a Chad Huffman bases-clearing double. Huffman's hit put the Broncs down by four after just two innings.

The Broncs answered in the top of the third inning as Jason Buhagiar (Penngrove, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) drew a one-out walk and was followed by a single through the left side by T.J. Gilmer (Forney, TX/Forney H.S.). With two men on and one out, Osiel Flores (Mission, TX/UT-Brownsville) drove a three-run shot over the left field wall to pull within one.

TCU added to their lead in the bottom half of the seventh on a Huffman home run. Then, in the eighth, they plated another run after Ryan Pack led the inning off with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly to go up 6-3.

Flores finished the game 1-for-4 with one run scored and three runs batted in. The home run was his third of the season. Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) was the only Bronc hitter to notch more then one hit, going 2-for-4 on the night.

Mason went six and two-thirds, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on 10 hits. The senior right-hander struck out three and walked four. The loss drops Mason's record to 7-5 on the season.

UTPA and TCU close out their three-game series on Sunday (May 14) at 1:00 p.m. at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX.
