Lady Broncs Sweep Texas A&M-Kingsville at Home

The Lady Broncs snapped a three-match losing streak on Monday (Sept. 18) as they handed Texas A&M-Kingsville a straight-set setback on their home court.

The Lady Broncs took control of the first match right from the get-go as they handed the Javelinas a 30-20 setback in the first game followed by one of their most dominating offensive performances of the season in the closely-fought 30-27 victory.

In the second frame, the Lady Broncs posted a .390 hitting percentage after they accumulated 20 kills with four miscues in 40 total attacks. In the third and final set, the Lady Broncs had trouble closing out the Javelinas as they recorded the 30-24 victory.

Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.), who was honored prior to the beginning of the match for her 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig milestone, posted a double-double (kills-assists) with 12 kills and 14 digs to lead the Lady Broncs. Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) added a match-high 13 kills and .235 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs.

Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out a match-high 37 assists and added 10 digs to record her eighth double-double (assists-digs) of the season. She also posted a season-best five kills in the match. Deanna Schneyer (Diamond Bar, CA/Diamond Ranch H.S.) posted one of her best offensive performances of the season with 10 kills while Karen Lyons (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) notched a match-high 17 digs.

Kristiena Herrera finished with a team-high 11 kills for the Javelinas while Kirby Krueger dished out a team-high 12 assists.

The Lady Broncs improved their record to 3-10 on the season while Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped to 3-11 during the 2006 campaign.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 22) in Fort Wayne, IN, when they square-off against IPFW in the first match of the IPFW Women's Volleyball Invitational.
