Lady Broncs Swept by North Dakota State

The UTPA women's volleyball program dropped to 4-14 on the season after the Lady Broncs suffered a straight-set setback to North Dakota State on Friday (Sept. 29) evening at the McAllen Memorial High School Gymnasium.

The Bison made quick work of the Lady Broncs as North Dakota State posted victories of 30-21, 30-19 and a hard-fought 30-23 triumph en route to improving the record to 7-9 on the season. North Dakota State finished the match with a .273 hitting percentage compared to .031 at the hands of the Lady Broncs and used a dominating defense at the net (13.0 blocks to 4.0 blocks) to seal the victory.

Christy Stuewe put together an all-around dominating performance for the Bison as the NDSU middle blocker finished with 10 kills with a .318 hitting percentage to go along with a match-high seven blocks. Chloe Quirk collected a team-high 11 kills and added nine digs for the winners' cause.

NDSU newcomer Mattie Johnson dished out a match-high 38 assists while Sheila Parrish collected eight kills and 12 digs for the Bison. Kati Fagnan recorded a Bison-high 14 digs in the contest.

Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) notched a double-double (kills-assists) in the match as she posted 14 kills and 12 digs for the Lady Broncs. The UTPA senior was the lone Lady Broncs to notch double-digit kills in the match as she collected her 10th double-double of the season.

Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out a team-high 31 assists while Chrissie Carrigan (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Mount Douglas S.S.) was a stalwart for the Lady Broncs' defense as she collected a match-high 16 digs in the match.

The Lady Broncs will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 30) at McAllen Memorial High School Gymnasium for a match against Utah Valley State College with match time set for 7:00 p.m.
