Lady Broncs Fall to Lamar in Straight Sets

The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball program dropped a straight-set decision to Southland Conference-foe Lamar on Tuesday (Oct. 2) in Beaumont, TX.

The Lady Broncs dropped their overall record to 7-13 on the 2007 campaign while the Cardinals improved their record to 13-7.

The Cardinals took a 2-0 advantage over the Lady Broncs after the home squad recorded a 30-22 triumph in the first set followed by a 30-18 victory in the second frame. The Cardinals were able to cap off the straight-set victory with a 30-24 decision in the third and final frame.

Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) led the Lady Broncs offensively with an eight-kill performance while Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out a team-high 23 assists.

Destiny Mason finished with a match-high 16 kills to go along with 14 digs for the Cardinals while Adrianne Meengs collected 44 assists to go along with 13 kills en route to finishing with a .706 hitting percentage.

The Cardinals held advantages over the Lady Broncs in kills (61-25), total attacks (125-104), hitting percentage (.336-.048), assists (57-23), digs (49-40) and total blocks (9.0-6.0).

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 5) when the Valley's team travels to Orem, UT, for a match-up against fellow Independent-foe Utah Valley University. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
