The University of Texas-Pan American dropped its third straight match as the Lady Broncs suffered a four-set setback to fellow Independent-foe Utah Valley University on Friday in Orem, UT.
The Lady Broncs dropped their overall record to 7-14 on the season while the Wolverines improved to 12-5 on the 2007 campaign.
Utah Valley quickly dispatched the Lady Broncs in the first set after recording a 30-11 victory then the Lady Broncs were able to even the match at 1-1 with a 30-27 triumph in the second frame. The Wolverines collected the home match victory after claiming the final two sets by scores of 30-20 and 30-25 en route to securing their seventh straight victory.
Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) led the Lady Broncs offensively with a 16-kill performance while Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 35 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Valley products Rebecca Toddy (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) and Ytszel Trinidad (Mercedes, TX/Mercedes H.S.) were the Lady Broncs' top performers on the defensive side of the net collecting 16 and 11 digs, respectively.
Jessica Endres notched a match-high 22 kills to go along with a .450 hitting percentage while Kristi Lindley dished out a match-high 65 assists to go along with 11 digs. Kayli Broadbent notched a double-double for the Wolverines with 19 kills and 12 digs while Allyce Wilson collected a match-high 25 digs for the home squad.
The Wolverines held advantages over the Lady Broncs in kills (75-47), hitting percentage (.314-.131), assists (72-43), service aces (8-4), digs (86-60) and total blocks (12.0-7.0).
The Lady Broncs will return to the Rio Grande Valley for their first home match of the season when UTPA welcomes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to the UTPA Fieldhouse on Tuesday. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
