The Utah Valley State women's basketball team improved its overall record to 12-11 on the season as the Wolverines posted a 75-54 victory over The University of Texas-Pan American in Orem, UT, on Saturday evening (Feb. 10).
The Lady Broncs fell to 10-15 on the season with the setback to Utah Valley State.
The Lady Broncs and Wolverines were in a tight contest in the first half as Utah Valley State was able to take a 38-30 advantage into the locker rooms. In the second half, the Wolverine defense held UTPA to 23.3 percent (7-of-30) shooting en route to recording a 37-24 advantage on the second half scoreboard.
Senior Robyn Fairbanks led the Wolverines to victory as the UVSC center as she posted a game-high 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go along with 8-of-9 from the free throw line. She also added four rebounds, two steals and one assist in 22 minutes of action.
Sandy Marvin finished with 24 points on the evening as she connected on four three-pointers and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe to go along with five assists, four rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes of action.
UTPA junior Tiona Wilson (Bradenton, FL/Southeast H.S.) led the Lady Broncs with 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting, including a trio of three-pointers, while freshman Rose Esther Jean (Missouri City, TX/Hightower H.S.) added 10 points, five rebounds and one steals in 24 minutes of action.
As a team, the Wolverines connected on 38.1 percent (24-of-63) of their shot attempts, including 80.0 percent (20-of-25) from the free throw line, while the Lady Broncs finished the game shooting 34.5 percent (19-of-55).
The Wolverines held advantages over the Lady Broncs in rebounds (41-38), assists (19-10), steals (12-11), points in the paint (32-26), and second chance points (19-9).
The Lady Broncs will be back in action on February 15th when they travel to South Dakota State with game time set for 8:00 central time.
