The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis dropped its record to 2-7 as the Lady Broncs fell to The University of Texas at San Antonio by a 6-1 decision on Saturday (Feb. 10) in San Antonio, TX.

"The women came out firing in doubles and won the point," said head women's tennis coach Rob Hubbard. "However - that was about it for the day as we were out-played in every singles' position except for Julia (Cirne-Lima) at the number-two singles' spot. We'll get back to work on Monday and try to straighten things out before we play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next weekend."

The Lady Broncs started off the afternoon on a high notes as they captured the point in doubles' action. The combination of Giana Oliveira (Santa Anna, Brazil/Eckerd College) and Julia Cirne-Lima (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Eckerd College) rolled past Tanya Hasking and Karen Scida by an 8-1 count in the number-one doubles' position.

Stephanie Willerding (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Northview S.S.) and Nicole Garcia (Cibolo, TX/Lee College) also captured a victory in doubles' action as they defeated Holly Phillips and Monika Drabkova by a score of 8-6 in the number-two doubles' position.

UTSA won its only doubles' match at the number-three position as Nathalie Wallin and Sandra Kukla captured an 8-4 victory over Megan Bedeau (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/Northview S.S.) and Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/Salier-Gymnasium Waiblingen).

In singles' action, Cirne-Lima dropped a heartbreaker in the number-two position as she fell to Kukla in three sets with each one as competitive as the previous. Kukla picked up the first game by a 7-6 (7-5) count, but Cirne-Lima rebounded in the second game by capturing the 7-6 (8-6) decision to force a third and final game where the UTSA senior collected a 10-8 victory.

Oliveira suffered a 6-4, 6-0 setback to Wallin in the number-one position while Willerding was downed by Scida by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 in the number-three spot in the lineup.

Haskings recorded a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Bedeau while Drabkova handed Buksik a 6-1, 6-2 setback in the number-five position. Eva Silvester also posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Nicole Garcia in the number-six position.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on February 17th as they travel to Corpus Christi, TX, for a match against Southland Conference-opponent Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
