Box Score
Texas A&M scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie en route to securing a 5-2 victory on Olsen Field in College Station, TX, on Saturday (Feb. 17).
With the score knotted at 2-2 and two runners on base in the seventh inning, Dane Carter connected on the game-winning hit as he drilled a double to left field allowing both Josh Stinson and Darby Brown to score and give the Aggies a 4-2 lead.
Texas A&M added one more insurance run off of UTPA starter Josh Wymer (Fort Worth, TX/Foster Ridge H.S.) when Parker Dalton scored from third base on a RBI single up the middle by Blake Stouffer.
In the final two innings, the Bronc bats were limited as UTPA failed to connect on a hit off of either Kiel Renfro or Kirkland Rivers. Renfro recorded the victory for the Aggies as he hurled 1.0 innings of action allowing no runs on no hits while Rivers posted the save after throwing the final 2.0 innings and not allowing a runner to reach base.
Wymer suffered the loss for the Broncs as the UTPA newcomer hurled 7.0 innings allowing five runs on six hits. He dropped his rookie record to 2-2 on the season for the Broncs.
The Broncs only posted three hits in the contest, which came off of the bats of Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/UNC-Greensboro), Osiel Flores (Mission, TX/UT-Brownsville) and Abraham Garcia (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.).
The Broncs and Aggies will conclude their three-game series on Sunday (Feb. 18) with game time set for 1:00 p.m.
