Box Score

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped its third straight game to Big XII Conference-opponent Texas A&M by a 6-3 count at Olsen Field in College Station, TX, on Sunday (Feb. 18).

After falling behind by an early 1-0 deficit, the Broncs scored two runs in the top half of the third inning when Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/UNC-Greensboro) scored on a RBI single by senior Osiel Flores (Mission, TX/UT-Brownsville). Flores would eventually steal second base then advance to third following a groundout by Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.). Two pitches later, Flores would score on a wild pitch to give UTPA a 2-1 lead.

The Broncs added an insurance run in the top half of the fifth inning when Flores doubled to centerfield then would eventually touch home plate on the next at-bat as Brooks drilled a double to left field.

The Aggies were able to tie up the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Craig Stinson double brought home both Kyle Colligan and Darby Brown. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Texas A&M scored three more runs on back-to-back doubles by Ben Feltner and Blake Stouffer to give the Aggies a 6-3 lead.

The three-run advantage would be all that the Aggies would need as Scott Migl hurled 3.1 innings where he gave up only one hit and struck out three hitters for his first victory of the season. Gary Campfield pitched the ninth inning to record his second save of the season as Texas A&M improved their overall record to 7-1 on the season.

Flores led the Broncs with a pair of hits and two scored runs while Brooks and Leighton Autrey (Stephenville, TX/Navarro J.C.) each added two hits for the Valley's squad.

Alex Guajardo (La Joya, TX/La Joya H.S.) suffered the loss for the Broncs as the UTPA senior pitched five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out one hitter.

The Broncs dropped their record to 4-7 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 20) at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium where they welcome Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to the Rio Grande Valley.
