Sam Houston State University recorded a sweep of a doubleheader against the UTPA diamondmen by a 20-1 count in the first game followed by a 14-8 triumph in the nightcap on Saturday (Feb. 24) in Huntsville, TX.

The Bearkats pounded out 21 hits and scored 17 runs in the middle three innings en route to securing a 20-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Don Sanders Stadium.
SHSU outfielder Bobby Verbick recorded four hits in the contest, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning, to go along with five RBI and two runs scored to lead the Bearkats. In total, the Bearkats had six hitters post two or more hits, and eight hitters knock in at least one run in the contest.
Josh Warren collected two hits and drove in four runs while Todd Sebek finished with three hits, three runs scored and a pair of RBI for the Bearkats.
Jesse Marshall picked up the victory for Sam Houston State as the SHSU senior tossed 7.0 innings allowing run unearned run on three hits while sitting down six Bronc hitters.
UTPA sophomore Matt Guzman (Corpus Christi, TX/UTSA) led the Broncs on the offensive side of the ball as he collected two of the team's three hits in the contest.
Cody Cisper (Peggs, OK/Northeastern State Univ.) suffered the loss for the Broncs and dropped his record to 0-2 on the season as the UTPA junior hurled 8.0 innings, giving up eight runs - all earned - on eight hits.

Down 7-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Sam Houston State rallied for eight runs in the frame en route recording 14-8 victory and the sweep of the Saturday games.
Verbick finished the game with three hits - and finished 7-for-9 on the day - to go along with four RBI and two runs scored while Clint Mann added three hits, including a triple, and four runs scored and two RBI in the contest.
Karl Krailo added two hits and three RBI for Sam Houston State while Sebek added a two-run double for the victors.

Luke Prihoda recorded the victory for the Bearkats in relief effort as he tossed 0.2 innings allowing zero runs on one hit.
