Bronc Tennis Falls to Texas A&M, 7-0

The UTPA men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback on the road to Texas A&M in College Station, TX, on Saturday (Feb. 3).

The Broncs battled tough during doubles' competition, but came up short in the end result against the Aggies. Ivan Avila (Mexico City, Mexico/Texas Southern) and Nirvick Mohinta (Calcutta, West Bengal, India/University of New Orleans) dropped an 8-4 decision to the 13th-ranked doubles' team in the nation in Bryan Wooten and Mike Beatty in the number-one position.

Brett Bernstein (Sugarland, TX/Austin H.S.) and David Lopez-Heredia posted an 8-5 victory over Brian Makowski and Jason Bain in the number-two doubles' position while Gary Bianco (Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) and Shashank Vij (Helinski, Finland/University of New Orleans) fell to Chris Nallon and Jeff Ocvirk by an 8-3 decision in the number-three position.

In singles' action, Avila dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Conor Pollock in the number-one spot while Bianco fell to Clay Donato by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 in the number-two position.

Lopez-Heredia dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Brett Joelson while Mohinta fell to Wooten by scores of 6-0, 6-1 in the number-four position. Stephen Shields recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Vij while Beatty collected a victory at the number-six position by scores of 6-0, 6-1 over Bernstein.

The Broncs will be back in action on February 9th and 10th in Abilene, TX, for a trio of matches hosted by Abilene Christian.
