The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped its third straight game to Stephen F. Austin by a score of 2-0 as the Lumberjacks concluded their sweep of the Broncs in a three-game series at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches, TX, on Sunday (Mar. 11).

SFA pitcher Eric Lehmann pitched a five-hit complete game, striking out just two batters and walking one to improve his record to 4-1 on the season while helping his team move to .500 with a 10-10 mark.

The Broncs were aided on the mound by starting pitcher Alex Guajardo (La Joya, TX/La Joya H.S.) who threw five innings, allowing just five hits from the 21 batters faced. Unfortunately for the UTPA, one of the hits was a two-run home run from Kevin Croft which would eventually be the game winner.

The homer is the second straight blast that proved to be the game-winning shot for the Lumberjacks against the visiting Broncs. During the three-game series, Croft recorded a multi-run home run in each of the games.

The Broncs best inning came in the top of the sixth frame where the Broncs recorded a pair of hits and had one player reach base on a fielding error by the left fielder, but with two outs and veterans Osiel Flores (Mission, TX/UT-Brownsville) and Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) manning second and first base respectively, Dominic Tognietti (Katy, TX/James E. Taylor H.S.) struck out to end the inning before the Broncs could get on the board.

Of the five UTPA hits, two came off the bat of Abraham Garcia (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) as the local product was the only Bronc to record more than one hit in the contest, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Lumberjacks outscored the Broncs by a 16-4 margin over the trio of games, including a pair of shutouts while UTPA drops to 9-16 on the season.

The Broncs are back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 13) and Wednesday (Mar. 14) when they face-off against Big 12 foe University of Oklahoma in a two-game series in Norman, OK.
