The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team gave up 11 hits and committed five miscues in its 7-3 setback to the University of Texas at San Antonio on Tuesday (Mar. 27) at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

UTPA dropped to 11-21 on the season while UTSA improved to 14-11, including a 10-2 mark since the last time the Roadrunners visited the Rio Grande Valley.

The Broncs got off to a quick jump, scoring the first run in the ball game in the first inning when catcher Osiel Flores (Mission, TX/UT-Brownsville) hit a single up the middle to get on base before advancing to third on Patrick Brooks' (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) double down the left field line and finally running home on a Lyndon Bartosh (Bay City, TX/Navarro J.C.) ground out to make the score 1-0.

After three scoreless innings, the Roadrunners put up marks of one, two and two runs in the middle three innings of the game. UTSA tied the game at one run apiece in the fourth inning on a one-run, two-hit and one-error frame before putting up a two-spot in the fifth inning on three hits.

The Roadrunners continued their scoring run in the sixth inning when they added another two runs on a one-hit and one-error frame. A Tim Palinscar single up the middle drove home the two UTSA runs.

Palinscar finished the game with three RBI, going 3-for-6 at the plate while scoring one run.

During that span, the Broncs were only able to add one run to their score when a Brooks' RBI single to left field that plated Nick Bourn (San Antonio, TX/Warren H.S.) to close the scoring gap at 5-2.

The Broncs were able to hold the Roadrunners scoreless in the top of the seventh inning, but UTSA came back in the eighth stanza to add two more runs to their total, making it a 7-2 ball game.

The Broncs added a run in the final inning of play when Brooks hit an RBI single up the middle, sending home Abraham Garcia (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.). Brooks finished the game driving home two of the three Bronc runs, going 3-for-4 from the plate while teammate Flores went 2-for-3 and scored one run.

UTSA starting pitcher Jake Sillavan improved to 3-0 on the season with his 4.1 inning performance, giving up four hits and two runs while striking out four of the 20 Bronc batters.

UTPA hurler Josh Wymer (Fort Worth, TX/Foster Ridge H.S.) dropped to 3-5 on the year, pitching six innings while allowing eight hits and five runs while fanning six Roadrunner batters.

The Broncs continue their four-game home stand on Friday (Mar. 30) when they take on North Dakota State in game one of a three-game series against the Bison at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium with game time slated for 6:00 p.m.
